How do I get to Auberge L'Apéro, and get around Montreal?

The Auberge is located on Mackay Street, Montreal, Québec. Before you begin to look at directions and the map, there may a couple of words of French you need to know, since all traffic signs are either pictograms or in French:

  • Est: East
  • Ouest: West
  • Nord: North
  • Sud: South
  • Droite: Right
  • Gauche: Left
  • Autoroute: Highway
  • Sortie: Exit
  • Rue: Street
  • Chemin: Road (abbreviated ch.)
  • Pont: Bridge
  • Sens unique: One way
  • Stationnement: Parking
  • Centre-ville: Downtown

One very useful French phrase is: « Pardon. Je suis (swee) tourist et je ne parle pas francais (fran-say). » (Pardon me. I am a tourist and I don’t speak French.)

If you arrive by plane at Trudeau Airport:
Take the 747 shuttle service and get off at stop 2 (see PDF map). Then walk one block north to reach St-Catherine, then one block East and you will reach Mackay on wich you turn left. It will cost you 10$.

If you arrive by bus at Central Bus Station:
You can either take a taxi or hop in the metro (underground train). If you choose the metro, take direction Angrignon on the green line and get out at Guy-Concordia station. Once out of the metro and on the platform, take the Guy Street exit. You will be then be on the corner of Maisonneuve & Guy Street. From there you turn right (east) on Maisonneuve, in the direction of the Java U coffee shop, then make a right (south) on Mackay street and we're at 1425.

If you arrive by train at Central Station:
Walk three blocks north on Mansfield St. from the station to Sainte-Catherine Street, then turn left (west) and walk eight blocks to Mackay. Turn right and we're at 1425, on the right.

If you arrive by car:
From the east or west: Take Autoroute 40 and take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. This seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Sainte-Catherine. Turn right and go four blocks to Mackay. Turn left, and we are on the left at 1425.

From the south: Cross the Pont Champlain and follow the signs for Centre-Ville. When you get to the end of the highway continue straight up University Street for about 10 blocks until you get to Boulevard de Maisonneuve. Turn left and go 10 blocks to Mackay Street and turn left. We are on your left at 1425.

Montreal has an excellent public transit system that can get you anywhere in the city. You can download it here, but it is too big to print. The Societé de Transport de Montréal offers other good maps on their web site.

The closest metro station to the Auberge is the Guy-Concordia Station. The link on the station will give you the metro schedule and also the schedules of all the buses that serve the station, and the Auberge.
